Things you didn’t know you could do with a paper coffee cup

We all know that in order to look after the planet, one of the simplest things that we can do is to make sure that we recycle more. There are plenty of things that you can recycle, and you may not realise some of the things that can come from choosing to recycle and re-use rather than simply throwing it away.

Here at Protect the Planet we love to offer up a range of eco gifts and eco homewares that are made from recycled materials. Not only does this reduce the amount of waste that is currently filling up our landfills, but it also gives a new lease of life to something that has already been so useful.

We also want to encourage our customers to be more eco aware, and understand how they can make a difference to the world around them. Paper coffee cups are something that most of us will use in our lives, often you will throw these cups away without a second thought, however, there are things you might not realise that you can do with them.

To help you to reuse and repurpose these sometimes difficult to recycle items we have put together the list of things that you didn’t know you could do with a paper coffee cup.

Make a planter

Having some plants around is always going to make us feel better. Even better if it also reuses a coffee up. Poke some holes in the bottom of the cup and then fill it with soil. You can plant a sprouted see od a cutting that already has roots into the cup and then put it all on a plate so that you don’t end up with water everywhere. Not only does this look really cool, but it also makes it a whole lot easier to transport your cutting around.

Create a desk organiser

If you can give your cup a good old wash out then you can transform it into something that can really help you to have a neat and tidy desk. You can decorate your cup anyway that you like, but we think that colourful tape is easy and looks great. Even better, if you have a bit of a coffee habit then you can build up a bit of a collection to really keep your desk neat.

Use it as a scoop

A simple use for a coffee cup that doesn’t require too much creative flair, is as a scoop for either garden dirt, soil or perhaps even pet food. It saves you having to use a cup from home to serve up their food and best of all, it is just the right size.

Put it in your compost

Any compost heap needs dry matter to work properly. A great option is to shred up your used coffee cups and pop them on there to soak up some of the moisture. Just be careful not to add too many!

As you can see, there are a variety of ways that you can reuse your coffee cups. If you want to find out more about coffee themed eco gifts, then why not check out our website and see what type of things we have on offer?
